xAI launched a $10/month SuperGrok Lite tier. The catch is that it puts capabilities that used to be free behind a paywall.
xAI launched SuperGrok Lite today, a new entry-level tier priced at $10 per month that gives users access to Grok’s image and video generation tools at basic limits.
The tier sits between the free plan and the full SuperGrok at $30 per month.
- Image and video generation: A few creations per day, videos capped at 480p and 6 seconds.
- Chat: Conversations twice as long as the free tier.
- Agents: One AI agent included.
The low price makes sense as an entry point for casual creators who want to try Grok Imagine without committing to $30 a month. The problem is that image and video generation was largely accessible for free not long ago. At $10, SuperGrok Lite is basically repackaging access that was recently already there.
The overlap with X Premium is also worth noting. At $10, this probably should have been folded into X’s existing subscription tiers rather than sold as a standalone product.
xAI jus recently started rolling out the new SuperGrok Lite tier, so it might not be available to you right now. If it’s not, it will appear very soon.
The Bottom Line: $10 for basic AI image and video generation is a reasonable price in a vacuum. The price itself is fine, but the fact that it comes after recent free access smells of bait and switch.
