Firecrawl is now a web search provider on OpenRouter

OpenRouter just added Firecrawl as an official web search provider, giving any model on the platform access to full scraped pages instead of short search snippets.

OpenRouter just announced Firecrawl as an official web search provider on the platform. Any model available through OpenRouter, including GPT, Claude, Gemini, and Llama variants, can now pull full web pages as clean markdown instead of fragmented search snippets.

Firecrawl is a scraping API that turns websites into LLM-ready content. It handles JavaScript-rendered pages, strips navigation, ads, and other noise, and delivers the actual page content rather than a short excerpt. The same API also powers an interact endpoint that lets agents chat with scraped pages directly.

The difference for grounding is straightforward. Standard search gives a model a few lines of text per result. Firecrawl gives the full page, which means the model reasons over complete content and can cite it accurately.

Setup is simple:

  • Enable it: Go to OpenRouter’s Plugin settings and select Firecrawl as the web search engine
  • Account: Accepting Firecrawl’s Terms of Service automatically creates a linked account
  • Credits: New Firecrawl accounts start on the Hobby plan with 100,000 free credits
  • API config: Configurable via API by setting "engine": "firecrawl" and max_results

One current limitation: Firecrawl doesn’t support domain filtering on OpenRouter. If you need to include or exclude specific domains from search results, that’s not available with this integration.

The feature is live now. OpenRouter’s web search docs cover the full configuration options for the Firecrawl integration.
