Hermes Agent can now produce 3Blue1Brown-style math videos on its own

Nous Research added a Manim skill to Hermes Agent that handles the full pipeline for producing mathematical and technical animation videos from a single text prompt.

hermes agent

Nous Research has added a Manim skill to Hermes Agent that turns a text prompt into a finished mathematical or technical animation video. The skill is built on Manim Community Edition, the same animation engine behind the 3Blue1Brown YouTube channel.

The skill handles the entire production process without user intervention. Given a prompt, the agent plans the concept, writes the Manim Python code, renders each scene, stitches the clips together, and reviews the output.

What it can produce:

  • Equation derivations: Step-by-step animated proofs and formula breakdowns
  • Algorithm visualizations: Visual walkthroughs of how algorithms execute
  • Architecture diagrams: Animated technical system diagrams
  • Data stories: Chart-based explainer sequences
  • Concept explainers: General-purpose animated educational content

The skill ships with nine reference guides covering animation techniques, Manim objects, visual design, equations, graphs and data, camera and 3D, scene planning, rendering, and troubleshooting.

Setup requires Python 3.10 or higher, Manim CE, LaTeX, and ffmpeg. After that, a single prompt is enough to start a render.

Nous Research is using agent-generated videos in its own Hermes marketing material, which signals how much weight the team is placing on autonomous video generation as a showcase capability. The community has picked it up fast, with examples circulating within hours of the skill dropping. A polish update landed the same day.

To use it, run hermes update and prompt the agent with whatever you want animated.
